PicnicLuv x SPEC: Back to School Brunch

By: Camryn Brewer

PicnicLuv is a pandemic-born business that runs on the passion of co-founders Crystal, her sister, Mia, and their mother, Corina. To celebrate the start of SPEC’s fall semester back in person, PicnicLuv sponsored a picnic on the USC Village Lawn for SPEC’s E-board. Complete with chic dessert towers and magical Bohemian decor, PicnicLuv set the scene for a semester of creativity and positive energy.

Crystal tells us a bit about how PicnicLuv hopes to bring a little cheer and a lot of “luv” with their custom picnics.

Q: What were the early days of PicnicLuv like?

A: The brainstorming started and my mom took initiative and started buying stuff needed for picnics. Mia made the Instagram, and after a month of going strong and growing, the IG page got hacked. It really bummed out my mom and she was losing motivation. We had to start all over again and we did. Then, within a few months of officially starting, we had to take a long break because I found out I was pregnant with my third baby, and then a week later Mia found out she was expecting her first baby. Life was about to be super preggers! Fast forward to September 2021; we actively started interacting and engaging in collaborations.

Q: Why picnics?

A: We started doing picnics after my mom put together this adorable beach picnic for Mia's 20th birthday. We ordered Porto's and had an amazing picnic dinner while enjoying the lovely sunset. So then it began!

Q: I noticed that each of your set-ups seem so unique to the clientele. What goes into your creative process?

A: We offer several different themes or color schemes for our guests to choose from, and of course we continue to add or change things up a bit to have more to offer. We also like to know a little about why we are hired for a picnic to give suggestions, recommendations, or even small gestures that make their picnic just that much sweeter and feel personalized. Creativity helps everything.

Q: How did you draw inspiration for the SPEC picnic?

A: We were contacted by Sara from SPEC Magazine for a Welcome Back Picnic. She wanted something unique and special so she put together this event. She was very sweet and wonderful to work with and I'd love to work with her again in the future. Sara requested something similar to our boho theme so we gave

her that feel with some seasonal touches, whimsical umbrellas, and we can't forget about the delicious "Brunch Dessert Tower" she ordered. Yummy!

Q: What do you see as the future of PicnicLuv?

A: I hope it sustains this crazy pandemic and weather obstacles coming soon. I’m hopeful for PicnicLuv to be on LA’s top things to do and just continue making beautiful memories for beautiful people.

Thank you PicnicLuv for helping us ring in the new year! Be sure to show them some luv on Instagram @picnicluv_!
